San Antonio's bases sit on opposite sides of the city, and the Medical Center area is a practical home base for all three. Our furnished apartments are a straightforward highway drive to each Joint Base San Antonio location, so a family visiting a graduate at Lackland, a service member on TDY at Randolph, and a medical team member at Fort Sam Houston can all stay in the same place.

Good to know for a Lackland trip
Book graduation weekends early
Basic training graduations happen most weeks and those weekends are popular. Reserve as soon as you know the date.
Leave extra time for the gate
The drive is about 15 to 16 minutes and 11 miles in light traffic. Google Maps shows up to about 35 minutes on weekday mornings. Check JBSA-Lackland's current visitor access rules before you go.
The first week after a PCS move
H-E-B on Babcock Rd, about 7 minutes away, covers groceries. Target on Fredericksburg Rd, about 8 minutes away, covers home basics.
Flying in late
The airport is about 12 minutes away, and check-in is with a personal door code, so arriving after dark is simple.
A family day after graduation
SeaWorld (about 15 minutes) and Six Flags Fiesta Texas (about 16 minutes) run seasonal calendars, so check park hours first. The Alamo and River Walk are about 17 minutes away.

How far are you from JBSA-Lackland?
About 11 miles. In light traffic it's about 15 minutes to the Valley Hi Gate and 16 minutes to the Luke Gate. On a weekday morning around 7:30, Google Maps typically shows 12 to 26 minutes to Valley Hi and 16 to 35 minutes to Luke (checked October 2026).
How far are you from Randolph and Fort Sam Houston?
About 28 minutes to JBSA-Randolph's main gate (22 miles via I-410) and about 17 minutes to Fort Sam Houston's Walters Street gate (12.6 miles via I-10), checked October 2026 in light traffic. Brooke Army Medical Center is about 23 minutes. Lackland is 15–16 minutes.
When should we book for BMT graduation?
As soon as you know the graduation date. Graduations happen most weeks, and stays near the base fill up early. Graduation week visits are on Wednesday and Thursday, so many families stay from the day before through Thursday night.
Can I stay while I look for housing after a PCS move?
Yes. Book from a few nights up to 90 nights in one stay, with one total price for your fixed dates. Stays of 30 nights or more in a row are exempt from Texas hotel occupancy tax.
Do I get a receipt for a TDY or PCS travel claim?
Yes. You get a receipt for your stay. Lodging allowances depend on your orders, so check your own travel rules before you book.
Can we bring pets?
Not in our current San Antonio homes. Service animals are welcome as required by law; please tell us before you arrive. As Utopia Gems Stays grows into new cities and states, some future homes may allow pets. That depends on each home and on state, city and building rules, so always check the listing for your stay.
